Numerical simulation of pulverized coal combustion in a rotary kiln under O2/CO2 atmosphere

The cement industry is the second largest source of global man-made CO2emissions after power industry, and adoption O2/CO2combustion technology for kilns great significance in reducing CO2emissions. In this paper, effects pulverized coal mixed air combustion on velocity field, temperature CO2and NOx concentration distribution rotary kiln were investigated by CFD technique. results showed that there no difference between two atmospheres, speed primary secondary creates a recirculation zone near burner. TheO2/CO2atmosphere decreased maximum temperature, but improved uniformity field. burnout rate under O2/CO2atmosphere 3.55% compared to O2/N2atmosphere. molefraction CO2at outlet 0.08 0.93 O2/N2and respectively. It easier achieve CO2aggregation capture O2/CO2atmospherethan O2/N2. at O2/CO2is approximately one half O2/N2, which can save investment denitrification equipment. simulation reasonably agree with measured data. findings work will provide reference generalization application O2/CO2flue gas cycle calcinating technology.
